FAME-KAI3H: A community-driven collaboration framework in applied AI for researchers and companies in the Kuopio region

Since early 2025, the FAME and DREAM doctoral pilot community in the University of Eastern Finland (UEF) has organised networking events around the topics of artificial intelligence in inverse problems, imaging, and health in the Kuopio region under the FAME-KAI3H co-operation framework.

Designed as a response to a recognized need for low-threshold opportunities to build bridges in the field of applied AI, the FAME-KAI3H meetings are intended to function as community-driven, bottom-up events where students and researchers from different organisations can meet, share their experiences, and get peer-support related to AI-based method development.

The next FAME-KAI3H meeting will be organised on Thursday, 12 February at 14:00 – 15:30 in the UEF Kuopio campus’ Melania building (seminar room ME-101).

The previous meetings have gathered researchers from different career levels and professionals from local companies (e.g., health tech, cleantech) and included science speed-dating meetings, company-driven presentations, and research seminars with guest speakers.

In 2026, FAME-KAI3H will also focus on “coffee with senior researchers” type meetings, where doctoral students can meet senior researchers working with applied AI to discuss about the field, career paths, practical issues, etc. The organising team actively collects feedback from the community to further develop its functions to best serve the community’s shared goals.
