Public defence: Computational approach to challenges in Radiative Transfer for Remote Sensing of Atmospheric Composition

Doctoral Researcher Antti Mikkonen will defend his doctoral dissertation Computational approach to challenges in Radiative Transfer for Remote Sensing of Atmospheric Composition in the Faculty of Science, University of Helsinki, on 18 June 2025 at 12:00.

Earth observing satellites are indispensable tools for gaining information about Earth system processes. A retrieval algorithm is needed to obtain the quantities of interest from the radiation measurements. At the core of the retrieval algorithm resides a mathematical model for the propagation of the radiation in the Earth system, the radiative transfer equation.

Senior Scientist, Ph.D. Piet Stammes, Koninklijk Nederlands Meteorologisch Instituut, will serve as the opponent. FAME’s Deputy Vice Director Samuli Siltanen will serve as the custos.

The dissertation is available in electronic form in the University of Helsinki’s open repository Helda.
